Battery Energy Storage Systems

Behind the meter battery installation incentives are eligible to claim on Apartments, Commercial, and Large Scale systems under the new PDRS Rule from 1 July 2026.

How processing works

Here is how we take an upgrade from eligibility check through to payment.

Eligibility check

Retailer or installer confirms the upgrade, site, and that the customer meets the current PDRS or ESS Rule requirements for the nominated activity before work proceeds.

Nominate BCS

The customer nominates BCS as the capacity holder for the upgrade, which is required before certificates can be created.

Install & capture evidence

The upgrade is installed and evidence is collected using the Formbay app required by the activity method; photos, serial numbers, compliance certificates, and customer declarations.

Create & register

We calculate the certificate entitlement, create PRCs and/or ESCs, and register them with the Energy Sustainability Schemes registry operated by IPART.

Payment

Once certificates are registered, we pay the agreed amount to the installer or customer as set out in your processing agreement.

What happens if our project is audited?

As the ACP, we hold the audit trail for certificate creation and can provide documentation to IPART or scheme auditors. Installers should retain copies of site evidence. We will work with you to respond to any audit request related to certificates we created.

Can the customer claim certificates elsewhere as well?

No. Certificates can only be claimed once. Once the customer assigns their rights to Beyond Carbon Solutions, the same upgrade can’t be claimed through another ACP or scheme. This helps ensure each upgrade is claimed correctly and only once.

What changed when the new ESS and PDRS Rules commenced on 1 July 2026?

New ESS and PDRS Rules commenced on 1 July 2026 under the NSW Energy Security Safeguard. Key updates include expanded VPP incentive eligibility and onboarding for home batteries, and new eligibility for multi-split and large air conditioners under the ESS. Activity methods and evidence requirements may differ from earlier Rules — always check the current version before lodging.
